Three Workforce Trends to Watch in 2022-01

With employees’ perspectives fundamentally shifting towards their values, organizations should find better ways to align with the long-term goals of their staff.

Digital transformation has impacted the way today’s organizations operate. Not only has this enabled organizations to sustain their business operations, but it has created opportunities to thrive. At the same time, it also helped employees to rethink their values.

Most of the employees are rethinking why they work, how and what they are seeking to achieve from their job. This has fundamentally shaped the workplace paradigm. Hence, for organizations looking to remain competitive in today’s transforming labor market, business and IT leaders should reimagine their stale, pre-pandemic workplace culture. Here are four workforce trends that they watch out heading in 2022:

  • Fostering collaboration will be the number one leadership challenge as the digital workplace becomes a permanent fixture

  • Companies will offer more flexibility in order to accommodate a distributed workforce and give employees a bit more control over their environment

“The world’s been shaken up in terms of how freely we can move, meet, and what we want to do with our spare time,”

According to a report from PwC, 65% of employees are actively looking for a new job. “From a company perspective, executives should prioritize the employee experience. People want flexibility. We’re going to see organizations adopt technologies that lean into a hub model with respect to working at the office. Some examples include offering more flexible remote work environments, providing sufficient work-from-home setups, and cultivating a company culture that accommodates hybrid teams. Companies will have to address the “half-in, half-out” problem with hybrid working,” adds Rich Waldron.

  • Adaptability will be one of the most important skills for candidates

With the lack of skilled professionals in the market, organizations will increasingly have to invest in up skilling their workforce. On the other hand, to remain competitive in the marketplace, employees will have to be flexible with their responsibilities. “As more non-traditional technical career models emerge, the ability to adapt and embrace new technologies will become an increasingly more important and valuable skill, “says Rich Waldron. “Additionally, candidates with high-level technical experience who have a more general understanding of software applications and processes will outshine candidates who have extensive experience using a singular platform or technology. There are higher expectations for technical proficiency among line-of-business (LOB) roles, so the capability to embrace technology and think outside the box as well as having the knowledge to properly use many different software applications will be vital to success in 2022 and beyond. “
