Mavenir is a networking software provider building future-proof networks with cloud-native software that runs on any cloud and changes the way the world connects. The company announced today that it has been selected by Türk Telekom to collaborate on the Open Virtualized Radio Access Network (Open vRAN) pilot project. The Telecommunications Infrastructure Project (TIP) will support the pilot, while ComPro Information Technologies Inc will act as the systems integrator.
Türk Telekom, Turkey’s leading first integrated telecom operator, has long been working on the development of Open RAN technology that will be active in 5G networks. With this vision, Türk Telekom joined TIP, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting open technologies and decentralized ecosystems to facilitate their adoption.
The pilot project at Türk Telekom aims to contribute to the work carried out by the Open RAN and Open Transport project groups within TIP. Built on the world’s first fully containerized, virtualized Open RAN Split 7.2x architecture, Mavenir’s award-winning Open vRAN solution brings operators greater business agility, network resiliency and flexibility. Mavenir provides Türk Telekom with a comprehensive end-to-end Open vRAN solution that will support existing 4G networks and extend 5G coverage through a single architecture.
Centralized Units (CUs) and Distributed Units (DUs) are responsible for aggregated processing, simplifying cellular base stations and improving total cost of ownership (TCO). Regarding the overall architecture, ComPro’s main responsibilities as a system integrator include timely delivery and installation of various O-RAN compliant components, while ensuring smooth integration of multi-vendor solutions. ”
The pilot project will include 4G radio units (RUs), 4G small cells , and 5G massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) RUs with embedded beamforming technology compliant with the O-RAN Alliance fronthaul specification. The pilot project will test Open vRAN at the Türk Telekom Innovation Center and at the pilot site.
