Schneider Electric invests in building software provider Planon Beheer BV

Schneider Electric has acquired a strategic minority stake of 25 percent in the leading software provider for building and workplace management, Planon Beheer BV (Planon). Together, both companies want to advance the development of software solutions and services for the comprehensive digital recording of the building life cycle. With its commitment to Planon, Schneider Electric is expanding its complete offering for holistic and IoT-based building networking with additional software know-how.

More operational efficiency for the workplace

Most properties use energy extremely inefficiently. Much potential for savings either remains undiscovered or cannot be used in everyday living and working without great additional effort. Digital end-to-end solutions for planning, monitoring and controlling a needs-based and flexible energy distribution can hold great optimization potential here. This is all the more true because buildings not only consume over 50 percent of the electricity generated worldwide, but are also responsible for around 40 percent of global CO2 emissions.

With the help of real-time data analysis, the solutions from the software provider Planon aim for more efficiency, productivity and comfort in the workplace. In addition to creating the most pleasant working environment possible, it is particularly important to optimize operational processes and use resources as precisely as possible. In conjunction with the IoT-based solutions for holistic building networking from Schneider Electric, the software tools from Planon provide detailed insights into workflows, operating procedures and energy consumption. Since all information is available for important operational decisions, users such as companies, authorities, educational institutions or data centers can benefit from the following advantages:

  • Fewer complaints from users (e.g. employees), as potential technical problems and failures can be resolved at an early stage through proactive maintenance measures.
  • Demand-oriented, data-supported optimization of room and area management as well as support in adhering to new compliance requirements.
  • More comfort and safety for building users as well as a healthier living and working environment thanks to continuous monitoring of air quality and temperature.
  • Higher overall user satisfaction, optimization of processes, more sustainability and higher cost efficiency.

While Planon continues to operate as an independent software provider, the Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS) extends Schneider Electric’s existing, IoT-enabled solutions for building management and maintenance. The French group, with 4,700 employees in Germany and local company headquarters in Ratingen, is thus expanding its expertise in digitally recording the entire building lifecycle. From planning and implementation through operation and renovation to sale or demolition, the Schneider Electric solution portfolio not only enables more sustainability, efficiency and reliability, but also offers building operators and builders tangible economic advantages at CAPEX and OPEX level.

Philippe Delorme, Executive Vice-President of Energy Management and Board Member at Schneider Electric, explains the importance of the strategic investment at Planon: “We are delighted to be able to work with Planon to further expand our digital know-how and our holistic solution portfolio for buildings and data centers. This enables us to better meet contemporary demands for greater operational efficiency over the entire building life cycle. At the same time, we are transforming the places where we spend most of our lives into sustainable, highly efficient, resilient and people-centered places. In these times of crisis in particular, it is also evident that buildings are an important cornerstone for the resilience of companies. Schneider Electric has therefore set itself the task of

Pierre Guelen, founder and CEO of Planon, commented: “We are very excited about Schneider Electric’s investment. This offers enormous advantages to our customers and partners as well as to our company. Schneider Electric is expanding our solution portfolio with a world-leading building technology that is supported by an extensive network of customers and partners. Together we share the idea of a digital transformation of the entire building life cycle and are convinced of its contribution to the creation of healthy, sustainable and efficient, data-controlled buildings. We provide our users with intelligent workplace solutions now and in the future that are personally tailored to them, their habits and needs. The support from Schneider Electric will accelerate and increase the impact of our solutions. ”

Laurent Bataille , Executive Vice-President of Digital Energy at Schneider Electric, added: “Smart buildings not only improve sustainability and efficiency, but also add value to the living and working environment of their users: more comfort, more well-being and more security. The buildings of the future will strengthen and differentiate brands, they will generate energy and generate income – all thanks to modern technology. Without a fundamental transformation of our buildings, we will neither live CO2-neutrally nor solve the problems of climate change by 2050. Intelligent, networked buildings are the cornerstone of an all-round digital and all-electric world. ”
