Nutanix boosts software-defined data center and multi-cloud environment-01

Nutanix, a leader in hybrid multi-cloud computing, announces features on the Nutanix® Cloud Platform, including the release of AOS™ version 6 software that aims to help companies build modern software-defined data centers and accelerate their hybrid multi-cloud environments. With these new additions, companies will have an integrated virtual network, improved disaster recovery (DR) and Zero Trust security. All of this being managed through a single interface, simplifying management and reducing operating costs.

“Our customers are looking for cloud solutions that meet their needs, are simple, flexible and allow them to choose the right technology for each situation, with freedom,” said Rajiv Mirani , CTO of Nutanix. “The Nutanix Cloud Platform continues to break down common silos within IT teams in order to streamline operations so customers can focus on business demands. With the new capabilities, we are delivering solutions for multi-cloud hybrid environments, including security, disaster recovery and virtual networks”.

Virtual Private Cloud Simplified by Hybrid Multicloud
Nutanix AOS 6 can now deliver Flow Networking™, a Network Virtualization offering on the AHV® hypervisor that allows customers to simplify their network through a single software-defined management dashboard. Enterprises and service providers can now easily create Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) to offer their users cloud-like agility with minimal reliance on hardware switches and routers.

Flow Networking also has VPN capabilities that allow customers to extend their virtual networks to any public and private cloud infrastructure. The ability to provide on-demand cloud connectivity without the need for dedicated equipment and other complex configurations further reduces costs and simplifies operations.

Expanded Access for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
Customers who adopt the Nutanix Cloud Platform with AOS 6 will have access to new Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR – Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery) functionalities, previously found only in specialized solutions. Built on AOS 6, the solution gives you the option to accelerate the public cloud as a secondary site, provides native metro-clustering support for the built-in AHV hypervisor, enabling automatic failover in the event of a disaster, as well as end-to-end encryption capabilities for DR traffic. In addition, a new DR dashboard provides a comprehensive view of customer DR configuration and status at primary and secondary sites. These features allow companies to eliminate specialized recovery hardware and software, reduce licensing costs, improve recovery time, simplify your operations, and potentially eliminate costly secondary sites on hot standby. In this way, midsize companies are able to have the budget or skills to implement robust DR capabilities in order to protect their business from disaster.

Automated Security Policies for Zero Trust
More and more organizations are looking to take a Zero Trust approach to security, but developing policies that are effective can be a significant hurdle, particularly for environments that span public and private clouds. The upcoming features of the Nutanix Cloud Platform, as part of the Flow Security Central™ SaaS platform, eliminate this common challenge by automatically creating Flow micro-segmentation policies through a Machine Learning-based planning engine that analyzes a network’s traffic organization and recommends security policies to protect virtual machine workloads from potential attacks.

In addition, the Nutanix Cloud Platform enables integration with Qualys’ industry-leading vulnerability management (VMDR) detection and response solution to empower customers to streamline security patching efforts with focused cyber threat detection capabilities on machines and visualization of vulnerability risks.

Protection in Nutanix Files will help detect and prevent against over 4,000 known ransomware attack signatures with the ability to dynamically deliver new signatures. Nutanix AOS, AHV, and Files products have joined the Department of Defense Information Network (APL) Approved Product List after successfully completing rigorous cybersecurity and interoperability testing.

“AOS 6 and the Nutanix Cloud Platform together make an end-to-end solution that lets you run any application, including the most critical, on-premises and in the public cloud,” said Eric Sheppard , vice president of research of the IDC Infrastructure Platforms and Technologies Group. “The new features address many of the demands of customers looking to gain efficiency and reliability through the clouds to support their current and future needs.”

Virtual network and enterprise DR functionality is now available to customers and Nutanix continues to develop security improvements.
