Netomnia and STL Partners to Test Programmable FTTx in Live Networks-01

STL  [NSE:STLTECH], one of the industry’s leading digital network integrators, today announced that it will trial its Programmable FTTx (pFTTx) software solution with Netomnia to their networks live in the UK.

With over 25 years of experience in optical connectivity, STL brings software-defined networking to large-scale fiber to the home, cell sites and enterprise networks through pFTTx . The company recently announced the general availability of pFTTx , a software-defined, open, and disaggregated Passive Optical Network (“  PON  ”) solution intended to make fiber optic networks smart and agile.

pFTTxoffers key benefits such as scalability, enhanced and detailed telemetry reporting, open community alignment (ONF/BBF/ITU-T), third-party Quality of Experience (QoE) application integration , delivering a better customer experience as well as faster time to market and lower total cost of ownership. This cloud-native software stack (based on Kubernetes microservices) can run on any telecom operator’s Edge Cloud platform based on the Cloud-native Computing Foundation (CNCF). The solution currently supports XGS-PON and GPON technologies and can be upgraded to 25G. Additionally, STL’s pFTTx solution is certified and listed on VMware Marketplace.

The UK is in the process of rolling out advanced fiber optic broadband and new era players like Netomnia are pushing this intention forward. STL and Netomnia recently partnered for fiber optic deployment and are now collaborating to integrate programmability into large-scale FTTx networks. Once completed, this trial will pave the way for the adoption of advanced software-defined architectures for FTTx in the UK.

Commenting on the collaboration, Jeremy Chelot , CEO of Netomnia , said, “The promise of fiber optic broadband will only be realized when service providers implement advanced architectures to organize fiber optic networks by software. We are excited about the possibilities offered by STL’s pFTTx solution. This trial with STL will be meaningful because together we will demonstrate pFTTx in a real scenario. »

Commenting on the announcement, Chris Rice , CEO, Access Solutions, STL, said  , “pFTTx is a cloud-based access network solution that elevates the business model for network service providers. We are delighted to partner with Netomnia on their Ultrafast, all-fiber broadband program. Our solution aims to help them accelerate network deployment by accelerating deployment and provisioning and improving network performance. »
