ISACA Revised The CMMI Model With Three New Domains That Help Organizations Improve Quality And Performance

In a tightening economic marketplace, addressing business performance can better help organizations meet challenges by reducing costs, increasing efficiencies, and meeting deadlines while improving overall quality . ISACA’s Capability Maturity Model Integration, or CMMI, has been able to do just that for organizations for more than three decades and now includes a major refresh of the model with three new model domains – Data Management, People Management and Virtual Work — giving organizations even greater flexibility to tailor their CMMI adoption to their unique needs.

A key support in improving performance for more than 30 years, the CMMI methods have helped organizations worldwide to increase their performance, improve quality, reduce inefficiencies and better serve the needs of the organizations and their customers. According to its most recent performance report, which tracks the actual results of companies using CMMI, companies evaluated according to CMMI methods achieved an 81.3% success on their specific goals, up to 77% improved productivity and up to 80% improved product quality. In this latest release, the concept of CMMI’s maturity model has been streamlined to allow organizations greater flexibility when adopting CMMI.

Data Management

The CMMI data management domain and its procedures enable organizations to organize and use data within the scope of their business needs. It also provides guidance on verifying data integrity to promote effective decision-making and enable consistent communication to enable organizations to meet their performance goals.

People Management

The CMMI People Management domain and policies provide guidance to align an organization’s people with business objectives and empower employees and workgroups to succeed.

Virtual Work

The CMMI Virtual Work Domain and its policies encompass the identification, assessment and addressing of virtual, remote and hybrid work needs, constraints and flexible solutions in a systematic and end-to-end manner.

These three new domains complement the following five existing domains: Development, Services, Supplier Management, Security and Safety.

“ CMMI has a proven track record of addressing issues across the organization and focuses on results-driven performance for faster, cheaper, and better outcomes. This new model addresses and supports optimization of key areas that many organizations are now looking for the best in terms of data quality, management and how to ensure their people are working to their full potential,” said Ron Lear , ISACA Vice President, Frameworks and Models. “This improves on what has already been called the gold standard of providing a prioritized path to launch products, deliver services and enable suppliers to meet goals with measurable results – with the added value of everyone’s work, every time to facilitate.”
