groundcover, a start up with a mission to reinvent the cloud-native application monitoring domain with eBPF, launches Murre today: an OSS tool that helps developers monitor Kubernetes CPU/memory metrics without the need to install anything on the cluster.
groundcover’s agenda is a lightweight and frictionless approach to Kubernetes application monitoring. The journey to build Murre started when groundcover wanted to expose K8s node resources and usage metrics for customers, monitoring resources that are part of the cluster’s infrastructure layer – CPU, and memory usage on each node aggregated by each container.

Murre is an OSS tool that helps developers get quick access to these metrics without the need to install any 3rd party components on the cluster. It operates using the same principles of the K8s metrics-server only directly from the CLI without storing the metrics persistently. Murre aggregates the metrics by namespace, pod and container name and compares them to their pre-set resource limits to detect potential bottlenecks.
