Hybrid Intelligence integrates human and Artificial Intelligence to generate better results and learn from one another. It will be a dominant workplace model in the digital era.
In the digital age, most of the tasks are being performed by Hybrid Intelligence which brings together human and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Hybrid Intelligence combines their complementary qualities that, when joined, boost each other. The tasks that artificial and human intelligence excel at are fundamentally different.
This is particularly true for human common sense, which is tough to create in AI. There are still numerous issues that machine learning systems cannot yet tackle alone, such as applying the information to decision making, planning, or creative work.
Artificial Intelligence is (still) restrictive in nature, while human intelligence is universal. It is particularly good at executing precise, well-defined activities based on certain data and in a controlled setting. Artificial general intelligence will need a large quantity of training data and fails to deal with certain data kinds as compared to humans, who can learn from just a few instances. This is where humans have a distinct competitive edge.
Why is Hybrid Intelligence important?
The human brain and AI utilize fundamentally distinct algorithms; one thrives in ways the other absolutely fails. Machine learning algorithms are better than individuals at detecting complicated and nuanced patterns in vast data sets. But the brain can handle information efficiently even when there are noise and ambiguity in the input — or under unpredictably shifting settings. This is why human intelligence and artificial intelligence need to work together and join forces as hybrid intelligence. PWC research reveals this is how executives perceive the future of work: 67% feel AI will enable humans and computers to work together to leverage their individual capabilities.

How to create a perfect blend
In order to derive the highest value from AI and create the optimal blend, organizations need to adapt the workflow process to integrate staff capabilities that optimize their capacity to give AI support. Businesses need to begin looking for operational areas that AI can enhance and think beyond the box. It is essential to involve staff in research and development (R&D) to envision the processes and strategies to replace them with AI.
The next step is data collation, as AI needs a lot of data points. Once AI and advanced analytic tools are integrated, background problems that are far more evident to AI solutions start coming to the surface. Organizations must be prepared to regularly tweak their process to optimize both AI and human jobs.
Rather than something to dread, AI should be welcomed. While mass media may make it appear like AI will take over human duties, but we need to remember that AI is taught intelligence by human programmers. By automating activities and gathering data, organizations can free up manual time and energy that humans can spend in more useful areas. Without AI, businesses today would swiftly fall behind; yet AI can do very little for a business without humans. By developing the optimal balance where AI removes labor, so human abilities are maximized, businesses will be a more efficient, productive, and lucrative.
