Enterprise leaders say that a rapidly increasing network of computers has paved the way for significant development of computing tech like cloud computing solutions. Each advancement has resulted in a seismic shift in the trends that influence IT operations and functions. Cloud trends have continuously been dependent on the changes resulting from IT needs and disruptive technologies.

Cloud 1.0 was a synonym for hosted services; similarly, Cloud 2.0 introduced web-based and optimized apps, while Cloud 3.0 has lead the hybrid cloud and hybrid multi-cloud services. Most IT organizations have a hybrid cloud policy in practice that IT departments struggle to follow. This was the entry point for distributed cloud solutions.

The distributed cloud allows users to operate their public cloud infrastructure while continuing on-prem data centers form other vendors too. It can be deployed in colocation centers or third-party data centers and can be managed from a singular control panel.

The major benefits of a distributed cloud include reduced network congestion, data loss risk, and latency. It brings enterprises closer to the end-users as a decentralized cloud platform. As per experts, this trend is the shift to public cloud services from the centralized model and will help accelerate a new age of cloud computing.

In the current economic conditions, Cloud service vendors have increased their footprints to keep pace with the expanding and changing customer needs. It has underwritten the new age of cloud solutions. The current hybrid cloud platforms tries to enable a unified cloud strategy, however, organizations have struggled as public and private cloud are vastly different implementations that require separate handling.

Traditionally customers handled private cloud services while cloud vendors managed public cloud solutions, creating a bifurcated system. Extension of centralized services provided by the cloud provider is done with the distributed cloud that includes governance and offloading operations to geographically varied micro cloud satellites and private cloud platforms. Thus it ensures that storage, networking, and computation are done in a micro-cloud location separate from the centralized cloud.

This architecture includes the inclusion of cost-effective microprocessors that can serve an improved performance/price ratio compared to centralized computers that rely largely on mainframes. It provides higher management and visibility to pre-existing hybrid cloud platforms with a singular tool set from one console.

Thus CIOs prefer distributed cloud as the physical placement of where the data centers are located critical to decrease latency. Another major advantage is that it doesn’t need high energy consuming cooling systems used by server racks, thus making it a greener storage solution. If a cloud platform crashes, users will have the app still available on another cloud. It means that network failure risk is significantly reduced as cloud services can be positioned in semi-local or local sub-networks.

This allows them to intermittently operate untethered. Distributed cloud helps improve the user experience of the network due to better geographical scalability and computational power. It improves security by successfully dealing with the bottlenecks of regulatory compliance with specified data privacy guidelines.
